RIVERS STATE (FMG) — Members of Youths and Environmental Advocacy Centre’s (YEAC-Nigeria) “One Million Youth Volunteers Network of Human Rights Defenders and Promoters in the Niger Delta” has informed the general public of a protest by Eteo Community in the Eleme Local Government Area against Shell
The youths of the community woke up this morning and staged a protest against Shell, alleging that they invaded the community for pipeline works and replacement without community engagement.
The Youths are also accusing Shell of negligence in the processes as they took to the streets against them.
According to a statement released in Port Harcourt by Fyneface Dumnamene Fyneface, Executive Director, Youths and Environmental Advocacy Centre YEAC-Nigeria , the matter is getting complicated and taking a new dimension as the community chief is allegedly reported to be siding Shell against his people.
And is also alleged to have said he will mobilize and support Shell against the protesting youths this morning to counter the youths and those against the oil major.
Fyneface Dumnamene Fyneface is calling on the authorities to immediately mobilize the community and intervene in the matter to forestall the break down of law and order.
He also called on the media to take advantage of this alert and call the attention of the Police and other relevant authorities to this matter with a view to addressing it before it escalates. Fyneface Dumnamene Fyneface, the Executive Director of the Youths and Environmental Advocacy Centre.
