Tanzania’s port general arrested for stealing $1.5M

The dismissed Director-General of Tanzania Ports Authority, Deusdedit Kakoko has been arrested by authorities

Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) Director-General Deusdedit Kakoko has been arrested over alleged embezzlement of 3.6bn Tanzanian shillings ($1.5m; £1m).

The newly-elected President Samia Suluhu recently read the auditor’s latest report, saw that the money was unaccounted for and ordered country’s anti-corruption bureau to start an investigation.

Kakoko was suspended on 28 March.
