South-South Youth Initiative president speaks on elections preparedness

RIVERS STATE (FMG) — Relevant institutions and agencies in charge of conducting a free, fair and creditable polls in the 2023 general election have been urged to ensure that the votes of the electorates count, and appropriately recorded.

This, they should do by ensuring that the voters are given unhindered access to the polling units with materials made available to them during the stipulated period of voting.

This is the position of the national president of South-South Youth Initiative, Comrade Saviour Maebe Oscar who in a chat with The Nigerian Press News said Nigeria can not afford to miss the “golden opportunity” the 2023 election provide to right the wrongs being perpetuated by the failed current rulers from “bottom to up, and up to bottom” in the country.

Comrade Oscar who is also the president of the Ogoni Youth Development Initiative, condemned the practice of the current Governor of Rivers State in stifling the opposition political parties through the issuance of tyrannical ‘executive orders’ which are fast eroding the rights of Rivers’ people.

He accused governor Nysome Wike discriminate distribution of developmental projects which, he said, are only concentrated in his home local government area of Obio-Kpor and Port Harcourt City to the detriment of so many other LGAs in the state.

He challenged the governor to go to Ogoni land which he promised he was going to developed in 2015 and show one single project he has done in the area in his eight years administration as governor of the state.

The fire-spitting youth activist called on the Rivers state citizens to demand for the account of how the One billion naira the governor voted for the cushioning of the devastating effects of the 2022 flood on the Rivers’ people was actually released and how it was expended as the current situation on grounds does not reflect such so called ‘gesture’.

He berated Wike for his not paying bursary to students as well as his administration brutish treatment of pensioners in the Rivers.

The South-South leader described the inhuman treatment of the state senior citizens who served the state diligently and dutifully but now being denied of their pensions and and entitlements as wicked and unacceptable in a civilized nation.

Speaking further on the preparation for the 2023 general election, the Ogoni Youth Development Initiative leader called on youths in the region to shun vote buyers who are out to lured them to mortgage their future.

He said in order to correct the perception in the minds of the youth, various activities are being put together to resonate the dangers of ballots box snatching, thuggery and other associated acts that are criminal as contained in the electoral law.

He charged them to keep away from such criminal acts and go into the election devoid of negative influence so as to enable them vote wisely and credible to secure their future.
