Following the release of water from the Kiri and Lagdo dams and the subsequent call by the people rural dwellers in the Orashi Region of Rivers State.
The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezewon Wike has approved the sum of N1 Billion (One Billion Naira) as an emergency relief measure to support victims of flood in Ahoada West and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Areas of the State.
In a statement by the Special Assistant on Media to the governor, Kelvin Ebiri, the statement said the One Billion Naira is enabled vulnerable families to cope with the devastating effects of the flooding.
The governor has also set up a Taskforce Committee to coordinate the distribution of relief materials to the affected communities in the state.
Governor said the Permanent Secretary, of Special Services Bureau (SSB) in the Office of the Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Dr. George Nwaeke, will serve as the chairman of the Taskforce, Mrs. Inime I. Aguma, is the Secretary, and the chairman of Ahoada West LGA, Hon. Hope Ikiriko; Chairman of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA, Hon. Vincent Job; Hon. Onowu Emeka Anyasodike members of the committee.
The Governor has in the same vein appointed 28, 000 (Twenty Eight Thousand) Special Assistants. The statement says the appointment takes immediate effect.
It will be recalled that the governor had on Tuesday, 11 October 2022 appointed 14,000 Adviser, 319 Ward Liaison Officers, and 40 Local Government Area Liaison Officers.
