The Rivers Government and security agencies have been urged to step up their game and nip in the bud the spate of political violence springing up in the State.
The attacks on campaign trains of opposition political parties in the State can snowball into election violence if not tackled before the next month and March general election.
For many, the attacks on the campaign train of the SDP, Governorship candidate in Igbo, and that of the APC, in Port Harcourt as well as the recent attack on the Accord Party in Etche are capable of resonating the dark days of the 2015 general elections in the State.
They say the non-arrest and prosecution of offenders have continued to embolden the perpetrators of political violence.
With accusing fingers pointing at the ruling PDP in the State who so far has dispelled the accusations, the onus is on the security agencies and indeed the State government to ensure the protection of the people and democracy.
As political parties and their candidates intensify campaigns ahead of the general election, creating a peaceful and level playing field for all is key to attaining a violence-free and credible election.
