Persons Living With Disabilities (PWDs) have called on the government at all levels to domesticate disability desk offices and the implementation of the national disability act that was signed into law by President Muhammad Buhari in 2019.
Speaking on the sidelines of an event organized by a non-governmental organization in Port Harcourt, the persons with disabilities said the domestication of disability desk offices will enhance social inclusion amongst persons living with disabilities.
The discrimination against persons living with disabilities prohibition act, 2019 provided for the integration of persons living with disabilities into society and the establishment of a national commission saddled with the responsibility of providing quality education, health care, and social and civil rights for disabled persons.
According to the persons living with disabilities, the implementation of the national disabilities act and the subsequent domestication of disabilities desk offices across the country will bring about social inclusion among their peers.
The group further advocated for an equal opportunity that will mainstream persons living with disabilities into various kinds of skills acquisition that will enable them to be self-reliant.
Nigerians have been advised to care for persons Living with any form of disabilities and to ensure that their rights of access to public premises were not infringed upon.
