Nigeria repeats history; beat Cameroon, reach WAFCON semis, qualify for World Cup

The Nigeria has repeated history after beating Cameroon 1-0, advanced to Women’s Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals and cap it all with the World Cup ticket.

Super Falcons’ attacker Rasheedat Ajibade scored in the 56th minute to increase her tally to three in the competition.

With the victory, Nigeria qualified for the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand next year.

All four teams that make the semi-finals at the ongoing WAFCON would pick automatic tickets for the FIFA Women’s World Cup, with the team adjudged to have finished fifth after a playoff between the losing quarter-finalists presented with another chance for a shot at a Playoff Tournament next year.

Up next for the Super Falcons is a semi-final clash against tournament hosts Morocco on July 18 in Rabat.

Morocco defeated Botswana 2-1 on Wednesday to advance to the WAFCON last-four for the first time ever.
