Angry commuters this Wednesday morning blocked the NTA/Choba road in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State Capital, following the rejection of the old naira notes by commercial transporters.
The stranded commuters say the action of the transporters and the refusal of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to make the newly redesigned naira notes available was making life more difficult.
Stranded commuters blocked the NTA/Choba road for about three hours in protest against commercial transporters’ refusal to collect the old naira notes of 200, 500, and 1000.
Some who are students say the decision of the transporters to obey the CBN’s declaration that the old notes seized be legal tenders was not in the best interest of Nigerians.
They urged the CBN to make the new redesigned note available to reduce the pain and avoid the breakdown of law and order.
To them, the protest will continue until the CBN and the Federal Government raise their responsibility.
