Kpite celebrates new yam festival

It was like a Christmas celebration in Tai yesterday as tourists, and lovers of African traditional and cultural heritage gathered at Kpite community in Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State to witness their annual New Yam Festival.

Like every other year, this year’s new yam festival celebration draws members of the community and tourists from far and near to celebrate the ancient display of the people’s new yam festival in a grand style.

The Kpite new yam festival is an annual traditional and cultural display to celebrate the blessings of the community forebearers, especially through the harvest of New Yam known as “Piema Nluwaalo”.

N-Press Port-Harcourt learned that members of the community have attributed the peaceful atmosphere during the New Yam Festival to the youthful engagement of the executive chairman of Tai Local Government Area, Mbakpone Friday.

They said the peace initiative by the chairman and his developmental thrive especially in the area of youth participation in governance was responsible for the peaceful celebration of “Piema Nluwaalo”
