The trending news on Friday 8th July, 2022, that “the Nigerian human and environmental rights activists, Comrade Celestine Akpobari has resumed full studies after his recent retired from partisan politics.
The news further mentioned that “his sudden departure from active politics came as a shock to his last political party, the All Progressive Congress(APC), and close party associates”.
It is also gathered that the people of Kaani, his home town, felt disappointed over the sudden resignation. According to a message sent on a WhatsApp group, a Kaani born historian and writer, Mr. Nyor-uwe-elomee Apere, he wrote, “My beloved people of Kaani, the trending news on social media, of the resignation of our brother, Comrade Celestine Akpobari as the APC Chairman, Khana LGA added to my sadness.
It is true that tough decisions are taking at a tough time but I think this decision should have waited until after 2023 election”.
He further stated his reasons for saying so, “Celestine Akpobari to me, has been a source of hope and negotiation tool for political upliftment of Kaani people. Even some of us in the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) may have used his position in APC to negotiate for political consideration.
In the past few years, no Kaani person was at the top most places in Khana politics let alone Rivers State. And Celestine Akpobari has been able to manoeuvre his way into the top most position in Khana APC”.
Also writing on the same issue, a business strategist, an organizer, and a supporter of the APC, Comrade Leton Alex Ndoo, stated that “Though I have no heard not heard from my leader, Hon. Celestine Akpobari, but he is a true son of Kaani with 100% Ogoni blood.
A groomed Comrade, who knows the veritable tools to use to reposition things for the best. I am not surprised at his decision, however, for the sake of his ardent supporters, Kaani community and Ogoni political future, I will appeal to him to be opened to dialogue.”
That is how Kaani people view the resignation of their appointment.
