The Governorship Candidate of the Zenith Labour Party and former Deputy Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly Rt (Hon) Leyii Kewanee has expressed his optimism that he will be elected as Governor of Rivers State during the upcoming general election.
The former lawmaker made this known when the leadership of the Ogoni Football Organisation (OFO) paid him a courtesy visit yesterday in Port Harcourt.
Speaking on his ambition to be the next Governor of Rivers State he stated, “I am sure, Rivers people will look at records and agree to vote Rt (Hon) Leyii Kewanee because with us as Governor of Rivers State, there is hope and there is a future for this State”.
He added” during the 7th Assembly, if men like us were not around, democracy would have been run aground in this State. But God brought us to the scene at such a time and we were able to steady the ship of State and navigate democracy to a safe shore”.
On his contribution to sports development, he stated, ” It is on record that Christian Pyagbara who plays for the Super Eagles today, is my product. He is from Korr a Community in Khana LGA.”
“Currently, we have over six professional players from the Nyo Khana Kingdom that are playing outside the shores of Nigeria today.
“We will develop young stars from Ahoada, young stars from Kalabari, from Etche, from Ogoni, and every part of the State.”
Rt. (Hon) Leyii Kewanee also promised to support Ogoni Football Organisation in the upcoming Ogoni Champions Cup.
Earlier the Leader of the delegation, Mr Martins Giadom informed the Governorship candidate that the purpose of the visit by the Ogoni Football Organisation is to interact with him and inform the former Deputy Speaker of the 2023 edition of the Ogoni Champions Cup and to solicit his support to make the tournament a success.
Martins Giadom stated that over the years the competition has been a channel for sports development and exposure of young players from Ogoni extraction to the World.
He wished the Ogoni-born politician well in his ambition to be the next Governor of Rivers State.
