High cost of educational materials as school resumes a concern for parents

Parents have narrated the high cost of educational materials as schools resume in Rivers State.

According to a memo sent to heads of schools in Rivers State by the Commissioner of education, all schools in the state were ordered to reopen for a new academic session on the 12th of September 2022.

But due to the high cost of educational materials, transportation, and persistence increase in the price of goods and services in the market, parents couldn’t meet up with these demands.

Speaking to N-Press Port-Harcourt some parents told our correspondent that the cost of educational materials, transportation, and even the prices of goods in the market has gone up to the extent that an average Nigerian cannot meet up with these demands.

Mummy Beulah said because her daughter was moving nursery to basic class, the cost of new books and school uniform is times three the previous ones she paid for.

Our correspondent who visited some schools in Port-Harcourt metropolis gathered that some schools were selling notebooks such as 2A for 100, 40 Leaves which was previously sold for 150 is now 200 while 80 leaves are 400.
