“We have a total of 176 800-millimeter diameter continuous flight auger piles, driven to an average depth of between 19 and 21 meters to the point of refusal. That is what forms the foundation of this flyover.
“We have the pile caps, and then we have 140 beams on top of the pile caps, and 208 elastomeric bearings to allow vertical movements due to compression. We have 215 millimeters thickness reinforced concrete desks, a 60 millimeters binder course, and 40 millimeters wearing course. Down here we have a total width of 30.65 meters, and on the overpass, we have a total width of 17.35 meters,” the Commissioner added.
Addressing the people before commissioning the project, Governor Nyesom Wike said it is unprecedented in the history of Nigeria that several projects that are capital intensive are being completed within one year.
He gave God the glory that the project was completed within ten months, and commended Julius Berger for not disappointing the Government and people of Rivers State.
“This project was flagged off almost one year ago, I told Julius Berger that I don’t want it to exceed one year. To the glory of God, it was completed in 10 months. It is unprecedented in the history of this Country that several huge projects that are capital intensive are completed within one year.
“From 2019 till now, we have constructed ten flyovers of this nature. By the grace of God, we will commission the 11th and 12th flyovers before the election next year,” the Governor said.
