The Edo State Government has suspended the activities of ASUU and others unions in state owned institutions of Higher Learning.
The suspension of Union activities follows a protest by students of Ambrose Alli University, AAU, Ekpoma, over the lingering industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.
The suspension which was communicated in a statement signed by the Secretary to State Government, Osarodion Ogie says the affected unions include, Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU; Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities, NASU; Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities, SSANU; Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP; Non-Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics and all allied unions operating across all state-owned tertiary institutions.
The Secretary to State Government noted that academic activities are to resume in state institutions of higher learning with immediate effect and called on all cadre of staff to report to their duty posts. Osarodion Ogie revealed that management of the affected institutions have been mandated to pay all outstanding salaries at once.
He added that the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma is expected to implement a no-work-no-pay policy, declare vacant and advertise the position of any staff who refuses to resume work in line with the directive.
