Port Harcourt: Diobu residents lament over waste dump

Residents of Diobu have expressed fears over the possible outbreak of an epidemic in the area following the stench that has continuously ooze out from a waste dump in the area.

The dump allegedly own by the Port Harcourt City council has become a nightmare to the people.

Some of the areas mostly affected are the entire education bus stop to Anokwuru street where the Rivers state newspaper corporation is located, Njemanje where the Rivers state hospital management board is located, the mile 1 market, Igbodo street old GRA and the mile 1 flyover.

A cross session who spoke to our reporter on the situation said an epidemic may likely break out in the area if nothing is done about it.

A senior staff of the Rivers state newspaper corporation who spoke under condition of anonymity describe the sit as horrible.

He said government needs to do something by removing the dump from the area. Also a resident told this medium that they badly sleep at night because of the odour. He also called for the dump to be removed immediately, adding that they are dying .

An official of the Port Harcourt city council who was at the site when the reporter visited the area confirmed that the dump is own by the city council.

The mayor of PHALGA could not be reached for comment as at the time of filling this report However the dump sit is still oozing offensive odor
