A High Court in Minna, Niger State’s Capital, has issued an arrest warrant for the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Faruk Yahaya, for contempt of court.
Major General Olugbenga Olabanji, Commandant Training and Doctrine Command, Minna, has also been arrested for a similar offence.
According to the presiding judge, Justice Halima Abdulmalik, the order was issued following a hearing on a motion on notice brought before the court by order forty-two rule ten of the Niger State High Court Civil Procedure 2018.
Justice Abdulmalik ruled that the order commuting Yahaya and Olabanji to Minna correctional custody for contentions of this court’s order on October 12, 2022, is valid.
According to her, the two Army officers will be held in custody until they are free of the contempt.
The case was then adjourned to December 8 for further proceedings by Justice Abdulmalik.
