Army chief charged personnel of apolitical ahead of 2023 elections

Ahead of Nigeria’s 2023 general elections, the country’s army chief, Lieutenant general Farouk Yahaya, has charged personnel of the Nigerian army to remain apolitical and discharge their duties within the ambits of the law.

Lieutenant general Yahaya gave the charge during the opening of the second senior commanders leadership seminar in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, South south nigeria. Gathered at the obi wali international conference center are senior serving and retired military officers who are in Rivers state

for a three-day seminar with the theme, “enhancing the capacity of Nigerian army senior level field commanders for optimal performance in a complex operating environment The seminar seeks to provide participants an opportunity to share ideas in the conduct of operational activities.

With the nation gearing up for the next general elections,the Nigerian army chief reminded personnel of the Nigerian army to remain apolitical and discharge their duties professionally. The general officer commanding six division Nigerian army, major general olufemi oluyede, in an address of welcome promised to improve on security within the division’s area of responsibility.

Participants of this seminar will within the next three days deliberate on some carefully selected topics including social media and the public image of the Nigerian army as well as rules of engagement in a complex operational environment
