APC rejects NASS poll results in Rivers

The All Progressive Party (APC) has rejected the results of the National Assembly election released and announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in Rivers State.

The APC in the state alleged that the figures were doctored and do not reflect the wishes of the electorates expressed at the poll on Saturday.

National Assembly candidates under the APC tickets in the state said results from Rivers East were manipulated, calling on members of the public to prevail on INEC to cancel the results announced so far.

Speaking on behalf of APC National Assembly candidates in Rivers East, in Port Harcourt, yesterday, Ezemonye Ezekiel Amadi, APC for Ikwerre/Emuohua Federal Constituency, regretted that INEC which promised to give Nigerians free, fair and credible election only succeeded in taking the country 50years backwards.

Amadi called for outright cancellation of the National Assembly results in Rivers State.

He said: “We are calling on Nigerians to prevail on INEC to throw away the figures announced so far. The figures are manipulative and do not represent the wishes of the electorates.

“Rivers East has been shortchanged. INEC failed to upload results by the Electoral Act.
We have videos of PDP thugs aided by the police carting away election materials.

INEC has announced results from Omuma, whereas there was no election in many wards in Omuma, as thugs disrupted the elections.

“The figures declared by INEC don’t represent the votes cast by the people at the various polling units.

Amadi noted that the interest of APC at the moment is not to be announced as the winner, but that results collated at the unit and ward levels should be used by INEC.

“This election has taken Nigeria 50 years. We reject the results purportedly announced by INEC. We are not saying that we must be the winner, but let the results collated from the field be used to announce the result.

“If at the end of the day, we are the winner, then fine but if we are not, let the people who have been given the mandate be allowed.

“We are aware that most electoral officers have been invited back to upload results online, whereas INEC has already announced results. The same INEC that promised us a credible election.

“We are distressed and we are ashamed to call ourselves Nigerians at this moment. We reject the results purportedly announced by INEC in Rivers State.

We call for a cancellation of this election. We want the mandate given to us or any other can be respected,” Amadi added.
