As the lifting of ban on open campaigns by Political parties and their Candidates for the 2023 general elections nationwide commences this Wednesday, the Chairman of Eleme Local Government Area, in Rivers State, Obarilomate Ollor, has cautioned politicians against activities that will disrupt the peace of the area.
The Council Chairman who in a press release this on Wednesday, said campaigns should be done within the ambit of the law and the election guidelines as stipulated by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“As various political parties, social groups and youth organizations embark on their campaign and mobilization ahead of the 2023 general election, It is necessary that such is done within the ambits of the law and the electoral guidelines as stipulated by INEC”.
The statement warned against the use of youths of the area as political thugs and agents of destabilization as done in previous elections.
“This is against the backdrop of previous experiences where youths were used as thugs to destabilize the existing peace and serenity of our various communities and villages”
He counsels political parties to carry out their campaigns professionally, in a manner devoid of bitterness, violence, vulgar abuse, and hate speech targeted at disparaging the image of individuals and party candidates, and avoid acts capable of threatening the peace and security of lives and properties of those living and doing businesses in the area.
