2022/2023 NPFL season kicks off Jan 8th

The long-awaited 2022/2023 NPFL season has received the green light as the IMC conducts a draw for the league season.

According to the draw, the league format remains an Abridged League of two groups and will kick off on January 8, 2023

Speaking after the draw, the IMC Chairman stated clearly the teams must abstain from violence. “Clubs have been informed to shun every act of violence during the league.

“Any club which engages in violent conduct will not be sanctioned with N500,000.00 as was the case in the past, but three points will be deducted as punishment.

“We know what it means to have three points deducted from points already earned by a club in the league,” Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye spits fire.

However, the World and Football Stakeholders are waiting to see if the Club Owners will align with the IMC on the abridged format.

It will be recalled that the Club Owners have earlier boycotted the abridged format for the new season while they opted for the normal long league season that’s traditionally rooted and aligned with Nigeria and International football standards.
